The usp of the book is its compact size when compared with its counterpart Ramesh Singh's Indian economy. Book is divided into 3 sections. 20 percent of the book contains static data while rest is contemporary. As unfortunately author has passed away, the book is not updated which puts it down. It was written in 2013, at a time when economy was in sorry state of affairs but after 2013 many important changes like Loksabha elections, formation of new government and its approach towards economy, government's action on black money and on tax compliance, recent demonetisation, steep decline in global crude oil prices and its impact on India's import, further addition of Forex reserves, US offshore shale-oil drilling and its economic impacts, change in fdi, opening up of retail sector for fdi, goods and services tax (gst) have been completely missed.

The book is great till first 25 percent of its part. It explains concepts in simple terms, such concept often keep appearing in prelims. Book can be read in 4-5 days and it is still not a bad investment, considering the cheap price. The B and C part of the book can be completely ignored as they are written as per 2013. The A part is static and is beyond concept of ageing. Have attended Sanjiv sir's classes, though was never able to understand him in class but never though that he could write or explain in such a wonderful way as he has done in part A of the book.
Book is in need of utter revision, otherwise it will be rendered useless.
Counterpart Ramseh Singh's book has been recently updated.

It really is a good book to start with. If you have basic understanding of economics, I'd then suggest you to skip to Ramesh Mishra's Indian Economy.

If you've already read this book and still struggle with fundamental economics concepts; try "Indian Economy Key Concepts" by K. Shankarganesh.

This is perfect book for Beginners. Even if u skip NCERT 11 12 Doesn't matter. It's very simple in language, u can understand the real story of economy.
If u r going for bank, insurance, rrbs, ssc then this book is more is more than enough.
But if u r aiming at Civils then Ramesh Singh with economic Survey is must .

It's good but economics is an analytical subject and this book doesn't clarify and explain concepts so much so you need to supplement it with ncert but then again ncerts are enough economic survey and ARC report is where the focus should lie

A very small and crisp book giving whole concept. More useful for IAS mains than Prelims. Especially for the one from non economic background
