As I have opted for history as my optional subject I already have Norman Lowe , but it doesn't have many important topics such as industrial revolution, Renaissance, period of enlightenment etc therefore I purchased this book. To my surprise it has all the topics as mentioned in the syllabus in the same sequence!!. But I must say that this book is less interesting to read than that of Norman Lowe. So if you don't have history as optional then 'there is no need to purchase this book, do your GS syllabus from Norman Lowe.
HAPPY READING :)

If you choose to read topic wise, the book can be concise. The book is not for beginners, it is advisable to have a basic idea of world history which could be accessed through number of youtube videos and supplemented with web surfing otherwise one may not feel familiar. The language is very basic but yet some important historic events demand more explanation.
While comparing it with Arjun Dev and Norman lowe it holds a strategic advantage. The book may not be as engaging as Norman Lowe and as informative as Arjun Dev but the book starts from 14th century Europe while the rest two stars from World War 1. (100 pages) One may like to go with any of the two books but first 100 pages of this books becomes indispensable as that phase has been completely missed out by the other two book. There is no harm in complete reading of this book supported that you have an idea of world history.
It is adequately pleasurable to read.

This is a very good book for Modern World History. All topics are touched. But some topics need to be explained in more detail. Print and paper quality is good. Buy it for UPSC History optional or otherwise if interested in detail read about Modern World History. Very recent developments should be included in this book. This is where it is lacking
