My main gripe is that after the first day, the "leather" started peeling away where it joined the watch. See picture to see what I'm referring to. Hopefully I just have a defective strap. Is anyone else's strap peeling away near the watch?
The company was kind enough to send me a replacement band which I received today. So far it has not shown the same peeling problems that were there with my original band. Also, I've noticed that the leather on this new version is ALOT nicer than before. It feels softer and more premium.
With that said, I purchased this item because my Apple band that came with the Sport (the black rubber/silicone one) started to peel. I didn't want to spend $150 on the leather band because of Apple's willingness to overcharge for sub-par accessories a la the rubber band. I regret that I did.
I wanted to give this band a bit before reviewing it because I feel a lot of people give something a solid review because of 'new purchase euphoria'. But in this case--I don't know how it has ever gotten more than 3 stars. That many only if you reviewed it the day you got it.
First, it does not feel premium at all as stated by others. It feels nothing like the Apple branded version and looks nothing like the photographs here. The ridges are non existent and it reminds me of those old straps when we were kids that you would slap on your wrist to close. It is also way too long. If you have normal sized wrists like me, this thing will wrap all the way around to the face of the watch. But, it did click in and the magnet worked well so I said what the heck--for $40, it's better than a peeling rubber band.
Fast forward about a month and guess what? This band is peeling by where it attaches to the Apple Watch on BOTH SIDES. You can see the metal attachment now and you really get to see how cheap this thing is made. Not only does it look like it was held on with cheap glue--but the leather is ridiculously thin. Paper thin in-fact.
I know Apple's band is expensive, but you're just going to spend more money going with Chinese knockoffs and having to constantly replace them. You're better off buying the official one so if it does peel, you can return it or exchange it. Otherwise, go with a brand you trust such as a clothing designer making straps or something. I know that's what I'm doing.

I'll update this review in about a week to comment on the durability
7/20 - as another reviewer noted the band material slightly separates near the clasping mechanism revealing silver. It's not a deal killer but it is distracting contrasted against the space gray watch. Also, compared to the apple version, the band does not fill in the grooves of the watch where the bands attach. 2 stars removed for this quality issue which makes this just an "ok" item for the price. Hopefully they will fix this issue in future versions!
**UPDATE** so after a little over a month of use the band has self destructed. The peeling continued until the leather band separated from piece that connects to the watch. again for the price I paid i guess I should have anticipated this happening. The band is now rendered useless.
I've figured out that the problem is that I use a MacBook Air as my primary computer. As a result the band tends to come into contact with the edge of the computer and that is where the damage occurs. I don't know if the Apple band is any more resistant to damage at this interface but if I had bought an Apple version of the band I'd have no problem returning it and getting a new one.
Of course I could simply remove the watch but that plainly defeats the purpose of having a Apple Watch. Since my band is black I used a black Sharpie to fill in the space where the color had been lost and it looks fine for the time being. I'm thinking that although I bought the band for use in the office that I'm going to go back to the original band and save this one for special occasions which largely defeats the purpose of a nice leather band like this one. I may just keep up with the Sharpie coloration but I'm not sure how long that will work.
It would be great to hear from others (or from Happy Cell directly) if they have had the same problem with the Apple version of this band or if they have any workaround for this problem. So long as you don't bring the watch band into contact with much you shouldn't have a problem. It's a great band that is better looking (even with Sharpie coloration) and more comfortable than the original sport band at a great price.
