Product Description

Review

Praise for George R. R. Martin and A Song of Ice and Fire

“The only fantasy series I’d put on a level with J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings . . . It’s a fantasy series for hip, smart people, even those who don’t read fantasy.”—Chicago Tribune

“Martin amply fulfills the first volume’s promise and continues what seems destined to be one of the best fantasy series ever written.”—The Denver Post, on A Clash of Kings

“Martin has produced—is producing, since the series isn’t over—the great fantasy epic of our era. It’s an epic for a more profane, more jaded, more ambivalent age than the one Tolkien lived in.”—Lev Grossman, Time

“Addictive . . . George R. R. Martin has created the unlikely genre of the realpolitik fantasy novel.”—Rolling Stone, on A Feast for Crows

“Epic fantasy as it should be written: passionate, compelling, convincingly detailed and thoroughly imagined.”—The Washington Post, on A Dance with Dragons

“I always expect the best from George R. R. Martin, and he always delivers.”—Robert Jordan

The product shown is not the one they are selling. The picture amazon shows is of the Boxed Set by Clays PLC being sold on flipkart for around 5000. However these guys are delivering the box set by Thomson Press and it's quality is utterly pathetic! No wonder the price is cheap!

1] First of all, Game Of Thrones is the one with the HBO cover which is ridiculous as a box set is supposed to have the same imprints.
2] Half the books are set in 8 pt. MINION PRO which looks good.
3] The rest of the books are set in 10 pt. TRUMP MEDIEVAL with utterly ugly iconography.

How are two different imprints with the same cover series, and one television imprint being sold in the same box set is beyond my understanding. The books set in TRUMP MEDIEVAL are so ugly that they look like cheap fakes that one sees on the road sides being sold for 50 bucks. Do not buy this set! When I opened the manufacturer's sealed plastic I found so much dust inside and the books looked like they had been used. Instead if you want a decent collection, go buy the set printed by ST. Clays PLC which has awesome quality books in the same imprint with the same cover series and all set in MINION PRO with beautiful iconography. OR if you want to avoid any confusion altogether, then buy the boxed set printed by Bantam Spectra which has no Indian Editions.

This set has confirmed my suspicion that Indian Presses cannot print books in decent quality. Maybe editors at Harper India were sleeping when these sets were being printed out or maybe Harper India has absolutely zero quality control, but one thing is clear: Books printed in the UK are so much better!

About the product,
->Books are perfect, font is fine for reading.
->The fifth book is quite large and i don't know if it'll hold after a couple of reads.
->The first book has the Ned Stark cover and it is slightly smaller than others, but it IS part of the box set as it is written on back of the first book (I saw some reviews stating its rare seeing this in a box set).
->As someone said the box won't probably hold the books after reading them. It is tight now as it is.
->The box is very fragile, mine was torn when i opened the package mainly because the packaging was not good enough. The amazon package box was larger than the box set and they didn't provide any air-bubble sheet or anything. I would prefer using some tape to reinforce the corners of the box because i'm pretty sure it'll tear apart if not handled with care.
->Also at this price this is definitely better than individually buying the books.

Got the package one day before the estimated date and package was as described. Most of the comments are true about the contents.

1. Set has 6 books in all (part 1-5) part 3 is divided in two.
2. First book is HBO edition with Ned Stark on it, cannot say it is a con, but it feels kinda odd.
3. Yes, the font in some books is different, but it did not bother me much.
4.Paper quality is not very good, but acceptable considering the cost.
5.Only major con could be last book. Its too huge, i think it wont last much longer. It should have been divided into two parts like its UK edition brother.
6. And last, the box is very weak, one of the corner is already coming of, I suggest you to secure it with some tape.

Over all books are acceptable, I am more interested in the contents, so box, cover and font does not bother me. So overall 4-star.

The delivery was on time, but when it arrived the box set looked like it was torn on purpose. The right side was torn completely! >:(
The first book, as everyone is saying, had the ned stark cover which separates it from the set..
Also the font of the 3rd-1st part and 4th book was bigger then the rest of the books, which should not happen in a box set!
The rest of the books did not have any problems and paper quality was also decent with readable font!
On the whole i would not recommend you to buy this unless you dont care about above problems ^^^

The package was delivered within 3-4 days in perfect condition.
Two cons were :
1. Although its a box set the first book has the Ned Stark from the HBO version on its cover
2. The third book is divided into two books with the font a bit larger compared to the other books
But I didn't really care about these two things. I've seen the tv show too but the books just take you in a completely different world. You actually understand all the characters and how they think. I had gone to a bookstore near my house to inquire about the box set's price and found out it was 2,900/- bucks so it the amazon deal was pretty sweet as it saved me around 1200/- bucks and I got the same thing! :D
The books are complete genius with storyline following the lives of some key characters. The whole universe is quite well thought out with the story always containing shocking twists! I'd recommend this as a great buy for any avid book reader.

The BAD - The box was half torn on one side. The first book of the series has a different cover from the one that is seen in the item listing on Amazon. The last book's cover seems poorly cut (makes it look like a fake) with rough edges.

The GOOD - George RR Martin Rocks. This is a must have series for collectors and ardent GOT fans!
