From the Manufacturer

FUJIFILM

The FinePix HS50EXR from FUJIFILM is perfect for enthusiastic photographers looking for something a bit more feature heavy than a 'point and shoot' compact camera, but not quite looking for the investment into a DSLR system.

42x FUJINON optical zoom lens

This newly developed 42x FUJINON zoom lens offers precision from the manual barrel zoom and the stunning optical performance for which FUJINON lenses are world-renowned. From 1cm Super Macro photography, 24mm wide-angle through to 1000mm telephoto*, this lens offers focal lengths which would need several different lenses on a DSLR. To ensure premium image quality, the HS50EXR's lens uses aspherical, ED and cemented elements and achieves blur reduction with optical Image Stabilisation, over the entire aperture range of f/2.8 to f/5.6. The lens features 17 elements in total, 15 of which have FUJINON's Super EBC coating on both sides, for reducing ghosting and flare in backlit and other challenging light situations.

Power sensor and processor for high quality and speed
Great pictures in low-light
Great pictures in low-light

The HS50EXR boasts a 16 megapixel EXR CMOS II sensor, coupled with the EXR Processor II, which achieves twice the processing speed of the earlier EXR processor. The biggest difference over the HS50EXR's predecessor is the inclusion of Phase Detection pixels on the sensor to achieve an incredibly fast autofocus speed of just 0.05 seconds in fastest conditions. The Intelligent Hybrid AF system can choose between Phase Detection AF or switch to Contrast AF in low light to make sure the best focus system is used – dependent on the shooting conditions.

A Focus Peak Highlight feature helps photographers manually focus by highlighting the area of your composition in focus. It provides a guide for focusing in situations where it's difficult to tell whether the subject is correctly focused; allowing users to manually focus whilst viewing on the LCD monitor.

A combination of the EXR CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II make the HS50EXR a truly powerful camera when it comes to capturing moving objects. In addition to the 0.05 seconds AF speed**, it also has a start-up time of 0.5 seconds.*** and an interval time between shots of just 0.5 seconds. Plus if you engage the Continuous Shooting mode it can shoot 11fps at full resolution (max 5 frames) and 5.5fps shooting at 8 megapixel resolution. Combined, these technologies mean that you'll never miss that crucial shot, no matter how fast your subject is moving.

If you select EXR Auto on the mode dial, the HS50EXR selects one of the three built-in sensor modes (HR, SN or DR) and determines what you are taking a picture of, from the 108 variations recognised, ensuring that the best settings are used.

Hassle free, any-angle shooting made easy

The HS50EXR has a high-resolution Electronic Viewfinder (920K dots), which is perfect for helping you frame your composition in bright sunlight, or if you wear glasses. Alternatively if you are trying to take tricky, close to the ground, macro flower shots or want to capture the band on the main stage above the heads of the crowd, you can switch to the very useful 3.0inch Vari-Angle LCD screen (920K dots). The clever LCD screen can fold out and flip around so you can see what you're taking a picture of – no matter what angle you're trying to shoot at.

This exciting camera features FUJIFILM's proprietary Film Simulation modes. Users can choose from ten different modes which simulate the effects of traditional FUJIFILM films. Including colour reversal film effects (Velvia / PROVIA / ASTIA).

Also available on the HS50EXR are the Advanced Filter functions; users can choose from 8 different artistic filters which can be previewed on the LCD screen:

  • Pop Colour – emphasises contrast and colour saturation
  • Toy Camera – creates shaded borders as if you were taking a photo on a toy camera
  • Miniature – adds top and bottom blur for a diorama or miniature effect
  • Dynamic Tone – creates a fantasy effect by dynamically-modulated tonal reproduction
  • Partial Colour – retains one selected original colour and change the rest of the photo to black and white. Colours can be selected from red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
  • High Key - enhances brightness and reduces contrast to lighten tonal reproduction
  • Low Key (NEW) – creates uniformly dark tones with few areas of emphasised highlights
  • Soft Focus (NEW) – blurring the focus of the image edges to create a softer effect
  • Multiple Exposure – this function offers users the chance to combine two separate subjects into one photo, ideal for creative photos with artistic effects

The HS50EXR is the ideal camera for the budding cinematographer thanks to the built-in stereo microphone. Thanks to the powerful sensor, the HS50EXR is capable of Full 1080p HD movie recording at up to 60fps. Plus if you want to be more a little more creative you can record lower resolution movies at up to 480 frames per second**** – and capture some amazing slow motion action. First thing I would like to say is, I bought this camera, after giving a deep study and research, comparing some of the other camera on this type for more than 6 months. I prepared an excel and finally decided to go for this Fuji HS50 EXR that too with AMAZON. I have 18+ years of experience in photography. Buy! Buy! Buy! No words to say, Just close your eyes and go for it, if you are looking for bridge camera.

For people who dont know much about cameras - Fuji comes with a glass lens and not fibre like others. Hence little heavy but excellent result. With 42x zoom you can do magics and with 84x zoom imagine what you can do. people who don't know to operate the camera Fuji has the EXR Mode, which will do everything with it advanced processor. For people who want to take photos like DSLR they have all the options that a DSLR have. For the price of Rs. 17,000.00 (I bought it during festival offer) it exceeds expectation. Please call me 9840739992 if you want further details on this.

Regarding the video - the Full HD video is also excellent. With the external Mic options and external flash options we can shoot functions and festivals.

I deliberately chose NOT to buy a DSLR and am pleased I chose this instead, after having had an HS25. The viewfinder and LED display are both much improved in this model, all round it is now more versatile. The manual zoom is a huge plus over the motor zoom generally available on this sort of product, it gives far better control but is, of course, less smooth than a motor when zooming in video - a small price to pay as I have access to a good video camera. RAW is another great add-on, though I use it rarely. The Lithium-ion battery is a lot better than using countless AAs but it is really worth getting a spare for heavy use days. Also, unlike most bridge cameras, there is a hot shoe for external flash.

Yes, it could be better [a bigger sensor would be great] but for a great price this is an excellent all-in-one product.

Being a nature lover & avid bird watcher, I needed a high zoom camera, which would not be a bother for me to lug around. Hence, a DSLR with lenses, was out of question. Of all the high zoom bridge cameras that I researched and tried, the 'HS50EXR' was among the best for my purpose. The Canon 'SX-' came close, but the 'HS50-' with such special colour saturation & slightly better quality of image on high levels of Zoom, clinched the issue. Also, the shutter can be set at it's fastest at 1/4000th of a sec. If you can't select the optimum aperture value or shutter speed, you have 'Shutter Priority' or 'Aperture Priority' modes. Just select one parameter and the camera does the rest. Such thoughtful features can only be from a company with experience and pedigree. This is an easy to use camera that is ideal to capture the sights & COLOURS of Nature. I believe this model has been discontinued and so suggest you to rush for it.

EXCELLENT camera. This camera has both Phase Detection AF and Contrast Detection AF. Actually, Phase is better than Contrast. It can take images at faster speeds, i.e. catch candid moments easily because of that.

Using this camera for a month now. All I can say is it is really an excellent bridge camera. Low-light photography excellent, Lens Shift (OIS) is excellent. Even at 1/6 shutter speed I get crisp and clear images. Please don't bother going for gimmicky Nikon/Sony bridge cameras with lesser actual features and higher prices. Buy this. truly, value for money. You wont repent, my guarantee. This is the highest level of point-and-shoot available in market till date.

First of all I'd mention it's limitations
-it has less effective megapixels (16) compared to DSLRs of professional use.
-Not much focus field depth (f/2.8-11) as compared to DSLR lenses
-it's a bit heavier compared to DSLR cameras
-it's focus ring is just a dial that can be rotated endlessly. The user needs to be use to with such manual focus system
-fixed camera lens. No interchangeable lens system!
-Not much clarity in 84x zoom.

Now the benefits
-although it's focus field depth is limitated but still enough.
-It's weight doesn't Matter for a photographer.
-It's focus ring system is still good. We just need to be practiced with it.
Although we can't change it's lens still it's native lens is damn good! 24-1000mm of focal length is too good. It will be too costly if we buy DSLR lens of such focal length!
-it is a very good camera in the name of professional photography.
-it has a special mode-exr which is the best auto mode one can have.
-It has a very fast processor and image sensor.
-It records videos in full hd and has very good further video options.
-when we go down in video resolution it gives high speed video upto 480fps frame rate that is incredibly good.
-16 megapixels is still very good.
-For ease of focus it makes the focused part sharp so we can easily focus but makes normal for capturing.
-it has a very nice image stabilization system.
-it has some advanced shooting modes that are very useful.
-it has a multiple exposure system which is very useful and RARE feature!

Huh. I'm tired of typing.! Further more features you find out of your own. You may download it's user manual.
I tell you.. for 22000rs it gives features of 1200000rs. Don't miss it.
