Based on in-depth interviews of 80,000 managers in 400 companies by the Gallup Organization, First, Break All The Rules shows that the world’s best managers break virtually every conventional “rule” of management practice.
In this book, Buckingham and Coffman show why exceptional managers select employees for talent, not experience, intelligence, or determination. Effective managers define the right outcomes for people, not the right steps; they focus on developing employee strengths, not eradicating weaknesses; they find the right fit for employees in the organization instead of relentlessly promoting people to their level of incompetence.
First, Break All The Rules will help you examine what you believe about effective management and encourage you to think of ways to set people up for success in your organization from the beginning.
First, Break All the Rules also highlights the core characteristics of great managers and great work places. They are the culmination of two studies completed over a 20-year time frame by the Gallup Organization. During this study more than 400 companies were involved and more than 80,000 managers and more than one million employees were interviewed. This book will challenge 4-H Extension educators and other Extension educators to rethink how they manage volunteers.
After a few pages, First, Break All the Rules introduces the reader to a whole new pattern of thought in regards to how volunteers are selected, trained, and evaluated.Read more ›

It just opens one's mind and challenge's one not just follow a standard blindly but to ask why, and what else can be done differently to create a impact. One must try to break rules for a different experience.
For new recruits It might not be useful.
