4.0 out of 5 stars Good Case At A Good Price 12 February 2015
By slepster - Published on Amazon.com

UDATE: I'm now 17 months into using this case and have been pleased by it...until a few days ago when the belt clip broke after I dropped it on a cement floor from a height of about 4 feet. Fortunately, the phone was not harmed, which is great.

I tried finding out how to contact Encased to see if it is covered by warranty, which I fully expect it not to be. There is no mention on Amazon's website of a phone number, website or email address to contact Encased, so I had to call Amazon to get that info.

I called Encased and got an unprofessional sounding answering machine. I then visited their website only to be further disappointed as their Contact and About pages had zero contenet on them. The website reeks of a half-baked, unreliable and unprofessional company that just posted a few web pages because someone like Amazon required that they do so.

I fully expect Encased to blow my voice mail off and never contact me. Having said this, given the affordable $18 replacement cost for the same case from Amazon, I'll probably plop down the cash and get a replacement one of the same model. I still think the good outweighs the bad.

I've had this case for about 2 months. It's a solid case. Gives you the sense that your phone is indestructible.

I'd give it 5 stars but found a few small issues (see below).

I read where several people said the case doesn't fit the phone properly. I thought that initially, also, but then realized that I had slightly mis-installed it. I didn't have the edges fully wrapped around one side of the phone, which made a huge difference in getting various buttons & inserts to line up properly. It was a very subtle error to spot, so I can see how several people may have done this, also, and didn't realize it. Including instructions with the case would probably have eliminated this for most, but there were none.

Cons:
- headphone jack works for some smaller headphone jacks, but not normal-sized ones.

- the plastic screen cover is only decent at best in terms of allowing you to read your screen. I experienced this with the Ballistic case for my old Galaxy S3 and remedied the problem by ditching the screen cover and using a Zagg screen protector instead. I considered doing that here as well, but ended up leaving the screen protector in place as I got used to the way it looked. When there is a light-colored background on the screen (espec. white) you see waves of color in the background that looks awkward & annoying. However, when you're viewing something with a dark background the screen looks very good. It comes down to whether this will annoy you or not.

- the "selfy" (inside-facing) camera is partially blocked at the bottom by the case. I never use that camera, so this doesn't matter to me at all. I use the outside-facing, higher pixel one instead. I can see how someone might hate this, though.

- I wasn't impressed the lack of color options. I settled on the "midnight blue" one (it looks more like a dark gray one) because I didn't have much of a choice. Earth to Encased...people like multiple color options.

- would love to have had a stand for times I want to prop up the phone and list to tunes, but this feature isn't included.

Pros:
- solidly built; looks like it can take a beating and not allow the phone to be harmed, though I haven't yet dropped my phone to tell for sure

- phone buttons align well with case

- looks sharp

- good, solid belt clip

I listed several cons, but overall they pale in comparison to the pros, so I definitely recommend this case...especially when comparing the price tag to an Otterbox, which are grossly over-priced.

2.0 out of 5 stars The case offers great protection, because the frame is so thick 14 July 2016
By Tim - Published on Amazon.com

I ordered this product in March 2016, and soon after it arrived I received a phone call and email from Encased asking me to rate the product. I waited.

I have to say, if all you want is a basic belt clip holster, then this would fit the bill. Unless you have large hands and fingers as I do. I immediately had issues getting the charging port cover open with the case on. I waited a week for the fingernails to grow a bit longer, but still had difficulties getting the charger plugged in through the case. The case offers great protection, because the frame is so thick. But this is also the problem. I dealt with it.

When the weather warmed up, battery heat became an issue, to the point where the phone actually shut off. I would have to disassemble the case and remove the battery to cool the phone, fearing damaging it otherwise.

I tried to contact customer service about a return, and ran into the same issue as another reviewer. They found me quick enough, but finding their information is a bit more difficult.

Since I am kind of stuck with the case, I drilled a hole pattern in the back to cool the battery, widened out the charger port opening, and now use it only when working in the yard. It is not an every day phone case for me.

The concept is nice, but this just needs some better thought out design for the next version. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons listed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, and good looking, case for the money 25 January 2016
By Scully - Published on Amazon.com

Stylish, sturdy case. Left off one star because it's a little difficult to install, the charger port is recessed and can be difficult to open, and the plastic bumper is stiff enough that it requires a fairly assertive push to activate the buttons on the phone. Don't see any of these items as a deal breaker, but good to know in advance. I've adapted to the buttons. I don't expect to have to remove & re-install the case very often. And I would rather have the somewhat flimsy charger port cover on the S5 well protected than not. Screen cover has great visibility and cleans well and easily. Have dropped the phone several times and the case provides excellent protection. Belt clip stays secure, holds phone well and conveniently. Overall a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pantera case one of the best 28 December 2015
By CL - Published on Amazon.com

The best of all the hard protective cases. No plastic tabs to break.
Removing the case to change the battery is about a 8/10. It does
take a while to seal the outside rubber around all the edges.
Snapping in the case to the belt is a breeze. I am just waiting to see
if the metal pivot pin in the belt clip breaks( like most other
brands) and we have to replace it with a paper clip.
So far I am very please with this case and it's price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacks quality control in design & function, really unfortunate... 22 July 2015
By Daijiro - Published on Amazon.com

The case was almost exactly what I what wanted but disappointed me enough to feel forced to return it. Like some of the other reviewers stated in their low reviews of the product before I bought it, the front facing camera opening is not manufactured correctly such that you see a shadow covering up the field of view for the front facing camera, BUT that didn't bother me so much as I don't use it that much. I can forgive them for that because of the lower cost of the case. Then I noticed despite having large cutout buttons for the power & volume keys, there was no feedback for pushing the buttons & it was really tough to press down even for a guy with big strong hands, BUT again I accepted the material they chose for the outer cover to provide the kind of protection I didn't have before & I gave them a break for it. This material will not stretch out over time that easily & worked well with the included belt holster. Then there is the actual front cover that includes the touchscreen protective film. In comparison to the outer hard thick rubber cover, the inner shell is flimsy & seems to only keep its form due to the snap in clips that hold the phone in place with the outer cover. If the outer hard thick rubber wasn't so tough and firm, I don't know how else the inner she'll would stay in place or pop right out when being dropped. My phone stays in the holster so I again did not have it bother me much.

Up until this, I consider myself being pretty lenient about the accessory, but I could not stand the way the opening for the charging port was designed to make it difficult to access! Despite all the stylish details in every other part of the case, they make a critical mistake in making the opening too small considering how thick they make the outer cover. There is a microphone
right next to the slit where you open charging port. For some reason, instead of widening the bottom of the opening of the case to include the microphone, they drill a separate tiny hole just for the microphone leaving the charge port with an awkward slim opening barely enough to get a fingernail into the slit to open the flap covering the charge port on my phone to keep it water resistant. The quality control check was not tested in real life situations to adapt to different model phones such as this one. They made the heart rate sensor, headphone jack, & even the speakerphone had good wide openings but the charging port was not purposefully thought out I think.

The blue and gray color was different than I what I would describe it but it was still nice looking.
It was more of a light blue-purple matte finish cover with dark grey border.

I wanted to like this case so bad & appreciated the original design, but Otterbox was the choice I went for
and haven't regretted it at all.
