The question is not as to whether one should buy Olive Pomace Oil as opposed to Extra Virgin Olive Oil, but is whether one should buy Olive Pomace Oil as opposed to Groundnut, Palm Oil or Sunflower oil. Here, the answer is definitely: Yes. In fact, because it is a monounsaturated fat, it is a better choice for cooking than other seed oils like Canola, Peanut, Groundnut, Palm Oil or Sunflower oil. Pomace oil still retains olive oil's basic lipid profile and therefore boasts high levels of oleanolic acid which has been proven to relieve states of hypertension and high blood pressure.
Spanish government reported that high levels of contaminants called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), some of which can cause cancer, were found in some olive-pomace oil products.
The contamination is believed to result from the process used to produce this oil. The Spanish government introduced a temporary ban on olive-pomace oil in response to these findings.
My request to Amazon is not to sell this ,people will see the olive oil for less than 1500 for 5 lts and not bothered about reactions to human.
To make pomace oil acceptable to consumers, the producer blends it with virgin olive oil. As with pure olive oil, the producer may vary the proportions between the pomace oil and virgin olive oil; however, the virgin olive oil content is generally quite low. The blended product is called olive pomace oil. Like pure olive oil, it is suitable for use only in high-heat cooking.
First thing first - Lets understand how any oil is extracted... The oil that comes out in first squeeze is known as cold-pressed and is certainly the most NATURAL and contains minerals/vitamins etc. EVOO falls in this category. The subsequent press leads to oil that has slightly lesser nutrients but still has its share. Any subsequent extraction is using solvents and Pomace oil comes in this category. Chemically only the percentage of Acid varies in the various varieties.
Now the Second thing - EVOO can not be used on high heat and also has a characteristic taste of its own. Hence, it cannot be used for Indian cooking. Virgin OO (second extract) has above attributes but on lessor scale. So you can do mild sauteing in it. Pomace can be used at high temperatures and is most suitable for Indian cooking.
In terms of its fats distribution, EVOO, VOO and Pomace oil all are same. i.e. Monounstaturated, Polyunsaturated and Saturated fat ratio is the same. Only the acid contents (taste and heat sensitivity), natural nutrients percentage vary.
Its important to note most of the oils consumed in India are neither cold-pressed nor can one guarantee its purity. Majority and I mean it.. are extracted using chemical solvents only. And then you don't even know whether its pure or adulterated even if branded. Also, none of them have fat distribution equivalent to any version of Olive Oil.
