Product Description

Defiant Dreams: Tales of Everyday Divas is a collection of twenty-four stories handpicked through a nationwide contest. More than a book, it is a collage of love and patience, courage and determination. Between the pages is a chronicle of dreams that refuse to be crushed by the heel of Life's injustices. The tales are portraits of ordinary women-mothers, daughters, brides-to-be and wives --- rising to extraordinary challenges; women who transformed themselves into mistresses of their own destinies. From the lanes of Banaras to the hills of Assam, from urban landscapes to rural settings, these incredible women are here to inspire. The authors include Radhika Maira Tabrez, Kirthi Jayakumar, Debosmita Nandy, Paulami DuttaGupta, Santosh Bakaya, Sanghamitra Bose, Esha Chakraborty, Sutapa Basu, Vasudha Gulati, Deepti Menon, Arpita Banerjee, Bhuvaneshwari Shankar, Ramaa Sonti, Anirban Nanda, Aashisha Chakraborty, Geeta Negi, Tansushree Ghish Dhall, Mahesh Sowani, Moinak Dutta, Sridevi Datta, Namrata Chauhan, Avanti Sopory, Paromita Mukherjee Ojha, Sreesha D

With every turning page, a stirring story unfolds. The real life authors, narrating the stories of women defying norms and wading through life, leave solid footprints on the mind. The visuals take life of its own and one can see the heroine of every story telling the unique tale through the writers' eyes. It's impossible to choose one story over the other or one style of a writer over another. Simply because they all are unmatched. None of the two stories are similar or touch the same chord. The hardships of a suburban Muslim woman are as different as an urban working woman or a housewife. The stories of sweet revenge, betrayal, selfless giving, the defiance of traumatic memories and rising from the ashes as phoenix are not the figments of imagination. They are as real as brick and mortar houses they live in and tend to. Heart reaches out for all these protagonists and applauds at their little victories.
The editing done by Rhiti and Lopa on the stories is commendable. The crispness in which the stories are presented give an anticipatory waft of fragrance of rich yet simple language in which they reach the readers and leave them asking for more.
Hats off to them both for bringing such a beautiful anthology together and a great applause for all the writers to bring to us a gift of lovely narration. Defiant Dreams is an apt title for such unconventional stories of conventional Indian women. Go for it."

Edited by Rhiti Bose and Lopamudra Banerjee, “Defiant Dreams” (Published by Readomania) can’t be just a book. It is like an unshakable belief of woman’s strength. Yes, the stories are so variegated touching upon different situations, age levels, socio-economic strata and much more. It starts with a story that gives the view of parent-child relationship from a daughter-in-law’s perspective in ‘Built from the ashes’ by Radhika Maria Tabrez it ends with interlinked lives of a girl and an unknown woman who made it against all odds in the story “Some Porridge and Education’ by Shreesha Divakaran.
A MUST READ!!

What can you expect from an anthology from Readomania.
1. A common theme (check. i.e. about everyday women)
2. Fantastic cover (check)
3. Stunning stories (check; yeah, all of them)
4. Neat editing (check)
5. An amalgamation of established and struggling writers to bring out the best from them. (check)
If you don't believe me then, read the story Memories of March by Sutapa Basu, The Drug Addict by Santosh Bakaya or A Safe Passage by Sanghamitra Bose. They are jewels. Don't think, buy it.
