The CPA exam is conducted in the US for people who aspire to become US Certified Public Accountants. It is used by all the 50 states plus the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Marina Islands. This exam falls under the jurisdiction of the AICPA or the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Since April 5, 2004, this exam has been conducted through computers in secure Prometric testing centers and tests the knowledge, skills and aptitude that are necessary for a person hoping to become a CPA. Skills like computer soft skills & professional writing skills are also examined. It is a fourteen-hour long exam and needs a very strong level of preparation to clear successfully.
It consists of the following four sections-
Auditing and Attestation (4 hours): (AUD)
All your knowledge of planning, internal controls, reviewing engagements, evaluating information, preparing communications & internal controls comes into play here.
Financial Accounting & Reporting (4 hours): (FAR)
This section will test your knowledge of your financial concepts, accounting and reporting for governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies, & non-profit organizations.
Regulation (3 hours): (REG)
Get ready to have your knowledge of professional ethics, business law, Federal taxation of property, individuals and entities & accounting issues tested.
Business Environment & Concepts (3 hours): (BEC)
This section tests your knowledge of financial management, planning & measurement, business structures etc.
