Customer Questions & Answers

My first Kindle was on 4 Nov 2010 and was immensely satisfied. Again, I bought the Kindle Paperwhite. Just great experience and a great e reader.

If you live in India there is a catch. The warranty is for 1 year and mine started giving trouble 30 days after warranty. Half of the touch screen was frozen and never responded. I am familiar with all trouble shooting procedure but was made to follow again by the technical support of Amazon and nothing happened.

After expressing regret they politely asked me to buy a new one. At Amazon India there is no replacement, no service nor is there discount or offers which are all available in other countries and in India Kindle is pretty stiffly priced.

Does Amazon feel that Indians have affordability?

My only regret is it is a great e reader but be prepared to loose if any goes wrong. A look at reviews show that most of Kindle Paperwhite had problem of having frozen screens.

Hope Amazon has the same concerns and considerations as it has for other countries and not be biased.

There is no need to discuss the specifications as that is already clear if you are reading reviews about Kindle Paperwhite.
However things which you need to know is the usage and e-books.

Currently Kindle provides the maximum number of e-books than any other e-book stores. Most books available are cheaper than the physical books. I am talking mainly for US & UK books, Indian books on the other hand are available in abundance. Especially as the market is growing so are the quantity of the books availability. In case if you have a PDF, instead of using it to read it on Kindle, just convert the same to Kindle format with the help of conversion software (like Calibre) and load the books.

Loading the books is the easiest just drag and drop.

Some people have commented that Kindle doesn't have 2 stage authentication, so in this case please don't save your card with Amazon and punch in the numbers every time you need to buy.
You don't need 2 stage authentication if you are careful where you use the card. Make sure you buy it only when you are using your own computer / laptop.

All the features, right from the Dictionary to the X-Ray ensures that you have an amazing reading experience instead of dreading to read a book completely. You can even make your children get into the habit of reading short stories and fables etc.

Battery Life
I personally read up to 3-4 hours everyday on Kindle without charging for 5 weeks. Very important point to be considered is to make sure that the device is in Airplane mode when you are not using the Wi-fi or 3G services and adjust the brightness according to the place where you are reading. Simple....

This has been one of my smartest buys after my Macbook and iPhone. Recently having been bit by the love of books and with some money to spare in my account i decided to invest in a kindle. Notice that i use the term invest and no I don't use this term lightly. Kindle is an amazing investment. Firstly, in the literal sense it saves you a lot of money if you are an avid reader, you'd recover your amount in a year or two. Secondly, it is a great investment in yourself. My reading times have increased exponentially since this beast has arrived. Let me list out some pros and cons as i consider that format quite handy when I'm personally reading a review:

The Price: It is fairly priced at 10,999/- and on top of that I purchased it during a sale at 8999/- which I consider to be an absolute steal of a deal. See, I'm not a big shot. I'm just another engineering student and I buy all this with the money I earn in internships and everything. Trust me this device is worth every last penny it demands.

The Display: The display is magnificent. Doesn't strain your eyes at all even in the night. Buying Paperwhite over the regular kindle was a great decision as I get most of my reading done at night or when I am travelling. E-ink is really miles ahead of LCD/LED when it comes to the reading experience.

Compatibility: The device easily connects to calibre. I use it with my macbook and transferring files is easy. Calibre makes it even more easier. Highly recommend downloading calibre on your PC/ mac for free when using this product.

Navigation: Never having experienced the physical keys on a kindle I'll say the touch interface isn't half bad. I can use it one-handed for a large stretch of time.

Titles: The largest collection ever.

After purchasing kindle, my reading time has increased. I am able to read without much of eye stain, as the screen does not throw light on your eyes, rather the direction is tangential on the screen. Kindle is a great device for reading both in sun light and dark rooms during your bed time without disturbing others.

The battery life is good . But, do read between lines. 8 weeks with 30 min reading /day. So essentially it is 56 days x 30 min = 23 hrs which is 200% + of a tablet and not the way Amazon projects the compassion as 10 hrs vs 8 weeks (Unethical marketing !!!).

The second thing I observed is that Kindle format books are cheaper ( typically 20% cheaper) than hard bound books. So you will get your ROI for the device in a few kindle book purchases within an year. It is very easy to hold this reader in a single hand for long hours, as it very light. Also it fits in your suit packet for quick access while on a flight or waiting for some customer meetings etc.,

The big drawback in Kindle is that, it is not designed for reading PDFs. Even opening a small pdf file crashes the Kindle. If your primary objective is to read PDFs, then Kindle is a "BIG NO".

Please remember Kiddle device is just a hook and hence it comes cheap. The real business for Amazon is selling books and once you buy Kindle you are hooked to Amazon ( BTW, there is nothing wrong in it and as the eco system is very good) . So, if you are a kind of person who will not worry about spending money for legally purchasing books and not the type who will typically look out for pirated pdf versions, I would really recommend this product.

Overall I like the product !!!
