5.0 out of 5 stars Finally... a battery that lasts! 20 February 2011
By M. Salsbury - Published on Amazon.com
I love my Epic 4G. It's fast, responsive, and does everything I hoped it would. My biggest complaint has been its battery life. In the stock configuration, I barely got through the day on a single charge. I took to carrying a second battery with me so that I could swap it out when it got low.

I added software that "defends the juice" in the battery. That helped considerably, but I still found myself occasionally swapping out the battery to get through a busy day. When I saw this product, I was concerned that there were no reviews, but decided to gamble on it anyway. I'm glad I did.

If you are the sort of person who dislikes the stock thickness of the Epic, you are going to HATE this product. It nearly doubles (to my eyes) the thickness of the phone from the camera down. Personally, I don't have a problem with the phone's thickness, even with this added battery. But I know people who think the Epic is "huge" without this product attached to it...

The replacement back cover provided with the product fit well on my phone. It snapped on easily, and all the holes were right where they were supposed to be. The hole around the power button seems to protrude a bit more than the stock case did, but it does prevent me from accidentally turning the phone on or off since I have to make a conscious effort to hit the button. The cover has the same rubbery feel to it that the stock cover did, which is a nice touch I was glad to see because I like the feel of the stock case.

The battery is not quite twice as thick as the Samsung battery that comes with the phone, but it's pretty close. It inserted into my phone easily and arrived with about a 40% charge. I plugged it in overnight and it was charged by morning.

The combination of this battery pack and the aforementioned software has made an already great phone even better. I rarely use more than 40% of the charge in a typical day. Even if I do, I can still pull one of the stock-size batteries out of my pocket and plop it into the phone to cover me until I can charge it again.

I've had the product now for about two weeks. It has met or exceeded my expectations in every way. It is the best investment I've made in the phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adds tremendous value to the phone... 5 March 2011

I received this about 4-5 days ago and have some impressions to share.

SIZE: It does add to the bulk of the phone, but my 2 thoughts on that are: 1. from when you first acquired the phone you knew you were going for power+utility and that required size, and 2. I find that the extended battery is noticeable but not a hindrance - I can't really tell a difference in my pocket and frankly it's easier to hold during phone calls and when using the keyboard.

BATTERY LIFE: It's first charge seemed the longest. I honestly felt I was getting more than twice the original battery's life. Since then I can say that it seems to have leveled out to twice the original battery's life without a noticeable difference in charge time. I have read on forums though that after the first few charges, Li-Ion batteries can exhibit longer life. I am extremely content with 2x the original time that I was getting, but anything over 2x would be a nice bonus. I am still ironing out the phone's tendency to use up battery life at random like it seems a great deal of people are.

BATTERY COVER REPLACEMENT: I was concerned that the new battery cover would be cheap, crooked, or look bad. I can say honestly that it fits as well as the original and all lines are tightly pressed together around the phone. Completely happy with the new cover. It seems to be made of durable material equal or greater to the OEM cover. I have no problems pressing the buttons with the new cover either.

SUMMARY: I have a hard time believing that I could have gotten more value by spending twice the money on some of the other options. I suppose that relies on personal preference and budget though. I have only had it for a little less than a week - so anything could happen. An example of the usage I have gotten out of it today would be: Unplugged at 9am, total talk time for today that I used was 1.5 hours, watched 45 minutes of a movie on it, sent 50-60 text messages, about 1 hour of browsing the internet, 30-45 minutes of downloading apps/messing with them, 20 minutes of email and another 45 minutes or so of other random stuff like Wordfeud. Skype ran in the background all day. The battery is at 15% right now and it's 10:15pm. There's no way I could have done all that with the original battery. I wasn't using any battery management tool, wi-fi was seeking all day and the brightness was set to 'auto'. Hopefully that gives you an understanding of what sort of performance this battery will supply. Very glad I bought this battery.

Hope this review helps. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Day two and still over 50% charge... 15 April 2011

I was skeptical that this product would work, as I had little experience with this manufacturer. So far, I am pleasantly surprised! I got my Epic last week, so it is pre-loaded with the most recent upgrade to Android (2.2) for this model. (I have heard that there are issues/problems with phones that had 2.1 and then received the update, so my review will not address those devices.) I received the battery and replacement back cover very quickly. It easily fit into my phone and appears to be original to the device. It is nicely rubberized, which gives it a nice grip and feel in your hand. It is larger than the other battery and back, but the added bulk actually improves the ability to grip the phone.

I fully charged the battery overnight. I then turned on the phone and programmed it through Sprint. It worked perfectly. As for its performance, I can tell you this: When I left for work yesterday morning, the device was fully charged. After an entire day of usage (calls, texts, email usage) I awoke this morning--a full 24 hours later--and I still have over 50% charge! I purposely left the device off the charger to see how long it would last, and was stunned to see the battery indicator still at about 60-65%! If you have never had a 4G device, then you may not realize it, but that is unbelievable performance. I previously had an EVO Shift (which I hated and gave to my son for this phone), and even with the extended battery, the charge never lasted all day on that phone. Prior to getting it, I read reviews about the Epic and how quickly it drains the battery due to the vivid display (which is truly mind-blowing) and all of the 4G features. Many have said that the poor battery performance is one of the phone's greatest flaws, but if you purchase one of these batteries, I can honestly say that flaw is eliminated!

In addition to the performance and quality of the product, it is also very reasonably priced. The Seidio 3000mh battery sells on here for $69.95, more than twice as much as this battery. It appears to be a top-rated brand, and while I can't speak to its quality, I can say that I don't see why one would pay that price. In fact, I wish I had purchased an Acase brand for my shift, as I think I got a subpar battery that has not really seemed to "extend" the life. So, while in some instances one should be wary of going outside the supposed mainstream brands, that is absolutely not the case here. In this instance, the Acase is an extremely great value, and not a cheap knock-off.

CONS: The only down side to this product is that there are very few covers available for the extended battery back. I did get a screen protector, but will keep looking to find a case that will protect and cushion the sides of the phone as well.

Overall, this is a 5-star product I would highly recommend. I rarely give such a rating, but this is one of those rare occasions when there really is nothing that needs to be improved with the product and the rating is well-deserved.

P.S.: I hope I am not jinxing this by posting such a great rating, and the thing doesn't break down in a week or two, LOL. If that happens, I will update the review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent purchase 10 April 2011

Well I didn't expect to get gold for copper. But the battery was worth it. I have seen a significant increase in battery life, however it has not quite DOUBLED my battery life. This battery/battery cover deal is by far the best deal you can get for an extended battery for this phone, but don't be surprised when the "protective" covering for the case begins to peel off.
